Wooden fences

There are many types of fences that can be achieved and are so varied that it is difficult to list. The materials, the type of realization, the colors and the transparency change, or the quantity of our life that can be made public and vice versa to how much of the public we allow to enter our house. And that's not all. The fence must also be chosen with care because it is the first thing you see from the outside of our house: as it appears, it tells us something about who lives beyond. It's a daunting task! The wooden fences are boundaries with ecological materials that appear quite natural. They can be placed either as a delimitation of your garden towards the public road or on the property border with the neighboring lots, or you can choose two different materials and designs to separate your property from the street and from the neighbors. The choice depends entirely on your taste but it is necessary both in agreement with the house of which it is pertinence and with the landscape around but also in harmony with the fences of the surrounding houses. To clarify well with "harmony" does not mean "equal" or even "similar". It is understood that your fence next to those already existing should not appear out of place. Assuming you're not the first on the road to do it of course! In this case the harmony must be in relation to the house and its surroundings. Here are some tips on the styles of wooden fences, the quality and possibly the possibility of making the fence yourself. But if accuracy is not your strong point, contact a good carpenter or at least let yourself be assisted by a good craftsman.

A dedicated project: maximum customization

A wooden fence can be cut and executed on a project or with a design dedicated exclusively to your fence or it can be designed and assembled from existing modules on the market. It is obvious that in the first case you will have a unique product, certainly more expensive but absolutely distinctive and totally customized. With your designer you can choose the type of wood, the color - whether natural or with enamelled and painted parts - and the possible insertion of other materials, not least plant materials. You will also have the opportunity to choose wood cutting more accurately. There will be maximum freedom in the choice of height, which can also be different in different points allowing the opening of visuals towards the public street. A good designer will follow the whole process with you, from the choice of wood to that of the craftsman or carpenter for the assembly of the work. You could also think of a custom fence for the main part and standard for the internal division with the other properties. It is certain that with a wooden design fence your house will be different from all the others.

The fences on the market: the elements to be assembled

If our desire is a fence with a solid appearance and maximum opacity we can think of the use of the individual poles to be inserted into the ground, which are found both turned and with rough surfaces. On these may be required to make holes for mounting the cross members for a more permeable fence or for fences, or for fences supporting the hedges and green walls. It is a solution that is partly personalized and partly prefabricated. The individual components are available in several sizes and allow a certain range of choice that will show a final differentness from the standard ones but also surely more functional because they are tailor-made.

The fences on the market: the prefabricated panels

On the market there are prefabricated fences with different designs and standard formats, with gates, erasers and extensible parts by means of hinges. Generally speaking of panels that are assembled together to form a fence or a real fence. The fence is generally of a lower height and very permeable to sight. Its realization is quite simple and you can build it yourself as indicated in the last paragraph. Even the prefabricated fence is easy enough to assemble even if it requires some more foresight: the panels must in fact be fitted perfectly. A quick query in the search engines immediately shows us the products on the market and by browsing the online catalogs of the products we can make sure that the product falls within a type of our liking, or we could decide to have it made to design. Let us remember that in any case generally, excluding large-scale distribution, with the sale of the components, advice is given on the types of suitable fences.

The quality of the wooden fence

Wood is a splendid and ecological material, easy to work with and great impact: it is a living material. Placing it outside is possible, and can last for many years exactly like the shutters and garden houses, but constant maintenance must be carried out to keep it in optimal conditions as a factory exit. From the moment it is laid it is good to make sure that you have spread the primer well or have purchased a fence that has already been treated, and if necessary, if you prefer a modern result, it must be painted with special varnishes for wood and outdoors. Every year you will have to check that everything is in place and do the proper maintenance. But this should not act as a deterrent: after all, even iron fences must be treated with rustproofing and periodically glazed. The frequency of these interventions also depends on the state you intend to maintain: the constant maintenance will always guarantee a new aspect, a more extended maintenance over time will keep a discreet appearance. If the quality is good and the external environment is not particularly aggressive, the reception will last for many years. The only fences that do not require such interventions - or rather that require much less - are those in aluminum or concrete: but the effect is certainly different, less personalized and generally not very much in harmony with the house and the landscape, especially if you live in it out of town.

If the fence is do it yourself

A wooden fence is not difficult to erect but still requires rules and attention. If you are precise enough you can think about trying your hand at it. The first thing is surely to identify with certainty what your border is. Then measure the length, decide the width and position of any gates to go and buy the wood in any wholesale warehouse or, if you have it comfortable, in a woodworking warehouse. Bring everything on the spot, pull a cord that will guide you through the posts and drill holes in them to plant them, perhaps with the help of metal anchors to which the stake can be screwed. Bubble it and fix it. Then start fixing the horizontal boards, or the pre-assembled panels, depending on your idea and your purchases: you could screw them to L-shaped iron supports or directly nail them to the supports. Even the gates are usually assembled, but you can also do them: in any case the maximum attention goes to the hinges and to the verticality or your gate will always be defective!

A few lines for more advice

Wooden fences can also be useful to delimit a garden area with a different function or to hide plants and other garden utilities of which you prefer to hide the view. Wooden borders recalling the fence can instead be used for the delimitation of the flower beds. Natural wood is beautiful but also painted it becomes interesting: it is no coincidence that in so many films and comics there is someone who must spend the weekend painting the fence with thick enamels!

Fences: wooden fences for you

Getting more insights on a topic like that of wooden fencing is now possible, thanks to all the support that you can generally get in this section, but above all thanks to our page, where we will let you perceive trends and motivations that could lead you to such a decision.
Specifically, it must be said that this new fashion, which knows so much about American style, marks the rather clear transition from the desire to separate its green corner from the outside world through classic walls, obviously safer, to protect us from ill-intentioned ones, to that of give a greater aesthetic connotation to a less functional product than before.
