Garden fountains

Garden fountains, despite being created exactly to fulfill their practical function, have become authentic furnishing accessories that can be combined and adapted to any type of garden.
Garden fountains are not simply decorative elements: in addition to personalizing your green areas, they also fulfill their function, supplying the water necessary for the daily activities that take place outdoors.
Outdoor fountains are available with different shapes, personalized and uniquely decorated and absolutely unrepeatable.

Which fountains to choose

Here is a simple and original guide, showing the various types and characteristics of garden fountains.
For those who like simple lines, the fountains are ideal with a base that acts as a support, on which is usually placed a small column (crossed by a water pipe) with one or even more taps.
In this way, at the same time, a regular recycling of the water is guaranteed (purified in a suitable way already previously) and the opening of the tap is allowed only when it is really necessary, thus avoiding unnecessary waste of water.
Garden fountains can also have decidedly more elaborate forms, but at the same time elegant, with a contemporary or classic style.
Another ideal model that those who like this style are characterized by a circular base for collecting water from more elaborate structures; they can also be further enriched by statues that imitate the ancient Latin, Greek and classical style.
Equally widespread are the garden fountains embedded in the wall, with the water collection tray attached, which can be placed on the ground or even on the support.
Often this type of fountain is positioned at an angle, allowing the optimization of the most cramped spaces and however exploit the aesthetic effect of the fountain.
No less refined and original is the version in rock blocks, with a faucet and support hidden behind the rocky complex, thus creating an incredible optical illusion, in which the water seems to gush between the stones.
For those who need fountains that combine with contemporary style gardens, fountains are more suitable for wall panels, generally made of aluminum and characterized by the most varied shapes, from the broken lines of the rectangle and square, to the soft lines and sinuous of the circle, of the ellipse or of the sphere. The water flows down with a wonderful cascading effect and then disappears at the base.
Another type of fountain that is truly original, by now widespread both in classic and modern gardens, is the Zen fountain, with rather small dimensions, around 25 cm on each side, elaborated only with exclusive 100% natural materials.
These small Zen fountains adapt not only to gardens but also to interior spaces, like the corners of the house. They are produced on the basis of the Feng Shui principles (which means "wind and water" in Chinese), an ancient philosophy that places inner harmony at the center of human existence, recalling precisely water, wind and sun , that is the natural elements of the Earth.
In fact these are natural elements that, according to the philosophy of Feng Shui, exclusively attract positive energies. Precisely for this reason, Zen fountains are made with gravel, river rocks and bamboo canes, one of the many natural elements, assembled without the use of glue; sometimes even terracotta, as a natural element, is used in the processing of these structures.
Zen fountains, very similar to vases, have an architecture that is usually very linear and simple, showing a block of rocks at the base, with ornamental flowers and a tap positioned exactly on the vertical support, which can be in bamboo painted black or even natural, from which water flows.
Generally the water collection bowls do not have clearly preset shapes, they can be shell-shaped (very widespread) but also rectangular or trapezoidal according to the typical forms of Japanese architecture.

Garden fountains materials

Garden fountains are made of different types of materials; in most cases, cast iron and stone are used which, together, are able to guarantee a high resistance not only to impacts but above all to the corrosive action of atmospheric agents and in particular of water.
Cast iron and stones are protection against thermal shocks; without detracting from the possibility of decoration, as well as stone-working.
These two elements also guarantee an incredible insulating effect, managing to keep the water at always fresh temperatures, even in cases of high ambient temperatures.
Many others are the elements used in the realization of garden fountains: cement, granite (both able to offer solid resistance), and finally iron which, in addition to durability and resistance, offers a less pleasant aesthetic impact compared to the fountains made exclusively with natural materials.
Stainless steel is also often used in the production of garden fountains, in which the water flows gently on a steel plate producing a relaxing and pleasant effect to admire; also available in copper fountains as in the model of the "shell fountain" in which the water flows from the bottom upwards, until it reaches the highest part of the "copper tree" and then falls again with a cascade effect. Fine and suitable for any type of garden is the chess slate fountain, with light copper and ocher shades, requires no additional accessories; in this list the classic fountain at levels, generally four, made of marble or a limestone type similar to Portland stone, cannot be missing, on which the water flows slowly slipping on the petals of the flowers that make up each floor, and going down from floor to floor creates a sweet relaxing sound.

Decoration garden fountains

You can customize and decorate garden fountains according to your tastes and needs.
In fact, if you have large, and perhaps even circular, fountains, it would be a good idea to place goldfish or even aquatic plants (such as the water lily with its light colors), elements that go without a doubt to give as a whole an elegant, but at the same time strong, decorative effect.
Another original alternative could be to enrich the outside fountain thanks to lights, possibly using LED technology, in order to create fabulous plays of light.
However, two rather important aspects should not be underestimated, namely maintenance, as well as costs. Of course it is advisable to opt for fountains equipped with opening and closing systems, according to your needs, so as to avoid waste and thus reduce costs.
If instead you have decided to add the lights as decorative elements, it is obvious that these will entail additional costs; furthermore, in order to avoid damage and problems, it is advisable to keep the fountain constantly clean, in particular the water collection bowl.
It is therefore advisable to empty the fountain periodically, paying particular attention to cleaning the surfaces, first using a brush, so as to eliminate the most superficial dirt and then a sponge dampened with water and detergent for deeper cleaning.
